The Chelsea Lady Devils soccer team is having a great season and over the past week has brought their record up to 8-2-1. On Sept. 26th the Devils defeated the Whitcomb Hornets, blanking them 3-0. Within the first four minutes of the first half Grace Bowmer had scored Chelsea‘s first goal, giving her team an early lead. The Lady Devils dominated the field after the first goal, not allowing Whitcomb many chances to move into their offensive end and take a shot. Ivy Mix scored Chelsea’s second goal off of a rebound off an indirect kick, giving Chelsea a 2-0 lead.
No more goals were scored in the first half, and in the second Chelsea continued to dominate. The Lady Devil’s offensive play gave their goalie, Steffie Gould, little to do on their defensive end. Sheila Nichols, Whitcomb’s goalie, on the other hand, had a lot to do. She protected the goal well for her team, with six saves in the first half. The final goal of the game was scored by Ally Allen of Chelsea, making the final score 3-1.
Chelsea’s second game of the week was against the Twinfield Trojans on Sept. 29th, ended up as Chelsea’s first tie of the season. The first goal of the game was a score around 28 minutes into the first half by Allen. No more goals were scored until the second half when Twinfield’s Danielle Rouleau headed in a rebound off the crossbar, tying the game.
The Lady Devil’s game against Rivendell on Oct. 1 brought another win to their record, again with a final score of 3-0. Freshman Ally Allen seemed to take control of the game with two goals, and the assist for the third goal scored by fellow freshmen Becky Dumont. Chelsea kept it on the offensive end as much as possible, giving Rivendell’s goalie, Brittany Mac a lot of action. Mac had 18 saves in the game, while Gould of Chelsea had only one. The Lady Devils finished the game, with a record of 8-2-1, and will hopefully finish the season the way they have been playing. With the freshmen domination, it is looking good not only for the end of the season, but also for the next few years.
