Gerald O. Manning

THETFORD—Gerald O. Manning, 46, died at home Saturday, March 29, 2003.

He was born March 25, 1957 in Lebanon, N.H. the son of Arvin Sr. and Eileen (Palmer) Manning. He grew up in Thetford and was educated in Thetford schools.

After his schooling, he worked with his father and brother in the logging business. For a brief time he was employed at a machine shop in Connecticut, but returned to this area and was self-employed in the logging business.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and racing, and particularly loved the outdoors and working with fellow loggers. He was an avid Nascar fan and raced his own car at Canaan Speedway, and Nor-way Pines Speedway.

On August 1, 1993 he married Linda Longley. They were divorced in 2002.

Survivors include four sons: Matthew Manning of Thetford; Justin Greene of Norwich, Garrett O’Brien of Hartland, and Benjamin Harper of Thetford; one daughter, Nina Bailey, of Burlington; three stepchildren: Kendra Withington of Canaan, N.H., Karmen Flint of Fairlee, and Terry Flint, Jr. of Thetford; six grandchildren; five brothers: Marvin "John" Manning and Alford "Bum" Manning, both of Strafford; Greg Manning of Corinth, and Bernard and Don Manning, both of Thetford; one sister, Marlene Jenks of Vershire; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services held Wednesday, April 2, at the First Congregational Church of Thetford at Thetford Hill. Interment will be at a later date. There were no calling hours.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Thetford Fast Squad, PO Box 162, Thetford, Vt. 05074. Arrangements are by the Hale Funeral Home of Thetford Center.
