Crush Chelsea

On Monday night the Royal Palace was in an uproar as the SoRo varsity boys seized their first victory of the season against Chelsea, 83-34.

In the first quarter, the first basket was scored by Chelsea. However, the Royals pulled ahead. With 3:41 left in the quarter the score was 13-9. But with Nevin Fulcher’s 10 points and Dave Manning’s 8 points the Royals went on a 17-2 run to build to an insurmountable lead. The score at the end of the first was 30-13.

The Royals outscored Chelsea 19-6 in the second quarter. Fulcher, with his back to back three-point swishes boosted their lead to 38-15 with 4:15 left. The halftime score was 49-19.

The halftime rest only increased the Royals energy. In the third, the Royal boys attacked the hoop outscoring Chelsea 23-10. With the addition of Lee Cross’s 9 points and senior Mike Obuchowski’s 5 points, the third ended with a score of 72-29.

In the last quarter both teams’ energy seemed drained. The Royals only scored 11 points, 5 of which came from senior Ron Adams.

Every Royal who entered the game except one had at least one point. Top scorers were: Fulcher-18 points, Dave Manning-18 points, and Cross-13 points. Jesse Manning and Nick Enright were the top South Royalton rebounders with eight apiece. With only eight turnovers and good defensive strength—eight different players had at least one steal—the Royals showed intensity even with a big lead.

The SoRo boys’ next home game is Friday Dec. 12 vs. Northfield. Next week is the MVL/CVL challenge at VTC. The Royals play at 7:30 on both Monday and Wednesday during that event.
