Gal Ghosts Start New
Season With Win

It was a typical jittery first game but the Randolph Gal Ghosts hung in there Monday night for the 35-34 win over Northfield away.

Randolph opened the game with a 9-5 edge after the first quarter, but lost that to the Marauders who led 14-13 at the half. Northfield held onto the lead at the end of three quarters, 23-21.

Varsity newcomer, sophomore Kayla Keyes, started off the fourth quarter with a hoop in the first 10 seconds that tied the game, 23-23. Keyes and Anna Reis combined for three more points to give the Gal ghosts a temporary edge. Northfield Scored six unopposed points to take a 29-26 lead.

Reis and Dani Currier both scored, Reis from outside and Currier with a good move underneath to push Randolph back into the front, 30-29. Northfield matched that with two hoops of their own for a three point edge with 1:32 left on the clock.

Currier scored after a Marauder foul shot to cut the gap to two with 42 seconds left. Freshman Rachel DiStefano caused a Northfield turnover, which set Reis up for the shot from downtown, giving the Gal Ghosts back the lead, 35-34 with 19 seconds left on the clock. The Marauders had possession twice in the last 10 seconds but couldn’t capitalize, giving Randolph a win to start off their season.

Randolph kept Northfield from getting a floor shot for the first five minutes of the first stanza while Currier, Dee LaPlante and Keyes teamed up for nine Randolph points. S. Yahyazadeh was Northfield’s high scorer with 11 points.

Reis ended the night with a double with 13 rebounds and 11 points, Keyes added 9, Currier 8, LaPlante 3, and Laura Koloski and DiStefano each had two.

The J.V. girls also won a close game, 16-14. Randolph’s high scorers were Chelsea Rogers and Shelby Peltier.

The Gal Ghosts played Mt. Abe away Wednesday and face Woodstock at home Friday, Dec. 12.
