News of Area Students

Tim Calabro, a 2001 graduate of South Royalton High School, and the son of James Calabro and Patsy Densmore, both of Royalton; was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2004 semester at the University of Vermont (where he is majoring in Spanish) with a GPA of 4.0.

Stephanie Lacaillade, a 1998 graduate of RUHS and the daughter of Richard and Priscilla Lacaillade of Randolph, was recently named to the 2005 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Stephanie is a senior at Dowling College, majoring in elementary education and social sciences.

Jennifer Slater, a 2002 graduate of Rochester High School and the daughter of Martha Slater of Rochester and David Slater of York, Maine; was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2004 semester at the University of Vermont, where she is majoring in Animal Science. She will spend the spring 2005 semester studying abroad at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia. Recently certified as a scuba diver, she is looking forward to diving on the Great Barrier Reef. 

Melissa Pettit, a graduate of South Royalton High School, and the daughter of Michael and Bonnie Pettit of Bethel, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2004 semester at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland.

Richard Hutchinson, a 2003 graduate of RUHS and the son of Jim and Leslie Hutchinson of Randolph, has been named to the Dean’s list at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., for every semester since he started there as a freshman in the fall of 2003. Hutchinson is a sophomore with a political science major and a theater minor, and also plays varsity lacrosse.

Cassandra Girard of Bethel, a 2004 graduate of Whitcomb High School, earned straight A’s during her first term at the University of Vermont this past fall. She is contemplating a double major in psychology and English, and her goal is to become a clinical psychologist. Her husband, Dereck Thresher of Randolph, is a Vermont National Guard careerist, who will deploy to Iraq Jan. 19, while Cassandra continues her studies and cares for their infant daughter, Ceomania.

Tyler Vermette, son of Mark and Brenda Vermette of Chelsea, was named to the Fall 2004 semester Dean’s List at Springfield College, where he is a junior majoring in Sports Management.

Johnson State College

The following area students were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2004 semester: Daniel E. Dunnem, Morgan J. Eaton, and Tara J. Vladyka, all of Randolph; Jessica E. Huyghebaert of Royalton, and Jennifer M. Ryan of West Hartford.

Johnson & Wales U.

The following local students have been named to the Dean's List for the 2004-05 fall term at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.: Caitlin Benedetto of Braintree, who is pursuing an associate degree in Equine Studies; and Thomas Pratt of Randolph, who is pursuing a bachelor of science in Food Service Entrepreneurship.
