Kent Appointed To West Point

Brian Kent, son of Richard and Linda Kent, has been offered a fully qualified appointment to the class of 2009 of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. A senior at Hartford High School in White River Junction, Kent received congressional nominations to West Point from Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman Bernie Sanders.

Although he is only 17 years old, Kent has excelled as an athlete, a musician, a student and an Eagle Scout. In high school sports, he has participated in the soccer, cross country and lacrosse programs. In the classroom, Kent has received numerous academic awards and is a member of the Elias Lyman Chapter of the National Honor Society. In the community, he has volunteered with the Montshire Museum and the Billings Farm Museum in Woodstock.

"Brian has proven that he has the skills and determination to lead," Sen. Leahy said. "It was an honor to nominate him to West Point and a pleasure to hear that all of his hard work earned him a spot at one of our nation’s most prestigious schools."
