HANCOCK—Earl Frank Long, 96, died Tuesday morning, July 26, 2005, at his home. He was born Nov. 9, 1908, in Waitsfield, the son of Charles and Lizziebelle (Williamson) Long. He was raised in Waitsfield, and graduated from Waitsfield High School. He had lived in Groton, East Corinth, Bradford and Waitsfield, before moving to Hancock. He married Hazel Perry Kinsley in 1961. She died in 2004. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps., had a small farm, and sold Kalamazoo Stoves. He also had worked in a creamery, at the Bowen Hunters Mill, and at the ski area in Waitsfield. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, music and dancing; and as a young man, he had an orchestra called the "White Pirates," often playing at dances. Survivors include his sons, Earl Long Jr. of Concord, N.H. and Robert Long of Bethel; daughters, Shirley Dematrules of East Corinth, Grace Viens of Waitsfield, Louvinia Callahan of Piermont, N.H., Sharon Long of Montpelier, and Peggy Gibbs of Hancock; sisters, Letha Corliss of South Woodbury and Maxine Tallman of Waterbury; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Scott Long; and two brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the Hancock Village Cemetery with Brother Timothy Callahan Sr. officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Alliance Hospice, 46 South Main Street, #1, White River Jct., Vt., 05001.
