Verna Brown

BROOKFIELD—Verna "Grammy" Brown, 98, died Monday evening, Nov. 21, 2005, at her home. She was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Williamstown, the daughter of Frank and Sadie (Wilfore) St. John. She attended Brookfield Schools and was a lifetime Brookfield area resident.

She married Gayle D. Brown May 21, 1927, in Williamstown. She and her husband operated a farm together for many years. He died in 1976. She was known for her doughnuts, homemade bread, and her big garden, and had been a member of the Brookfield Grange. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include a son, Gaylen F. "Buster" Brown and his wife Muriel of Brookfield; a daughter, Gerry Brown Southworth of Williamstown; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son, Gordon, and her seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. Burial will be held in May at the Brookfield Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at the Day Funeral Home. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
