Central Vermont Council on Aging Announces New Exec. Director Beth Stern of Marshfield was recently selected as the new Executive Director of the Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA). "Ms. Stern’s training and experience combined put her at the top of the list of candidates," said David Grundy, president of the Board of Directors. "The fact that she has a long-term working relationship with CVCOA will make for a smooth transition." Stern has been acting as the Interim Executive Director since September, following the resignation of Charles "Chip" Castle, who led CVCOA for many years. Stern has served the agency in several capacities since 1990, for the past 13 years as Director of Case Management and as a member of the Management Team. Stern says she is committed to fulfilling the mission of CVCOA to support elders aged 60 and older in leading healthy, independent, meaningful and dignified lives in their homes and communities. "This is a crucial time for agencies that serve seniors and provide the support services that enable them to remain independent," Stern noted. "We, and the elders we serve, are challenged by the changes in the Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage and by potential cutbacks in fuel assistance, food stamps, and other support services." Stern stresses that CVCOA has a dedicated staff focused on meeting the needs of elders to live independently. The agency serves 54 towns, primarily in Washington, Orange and Lamoille counties, with an office in Barre and Morrisville. It provides information and assistance to elders and family caregivers with questions concerning public benefits, housing, and senior services through the toll free Senior Helpline at 1-800-642-5119. In addition, case management services provide assistance to individuals to set up personalized care plans of services. The state health insurance program aids elders with questions regarding prescription drug coverage and Medicare. The family caregiver support program provides support and respite grants to family members who care for elders in their own homes. The community services department contracts with local senior centers and meal sites to provide home delivered and congregate meals, and with local transit agencies to provide transportation for elders. Stern will officially accept her new position Monday, Nov. 28 at the Annual Meeting of the Central Vermont Council on Aging. Anyone who would like to attend the meeting, is urged to call CVCOA at 802-479-0531. ____________ |
