I thought that you might be interested to know that Bode Miller, has a Randolph connection. The late George Tormey, who grew up in Randolph skiing at Farr's Hill and Pinnacle Ski-Ways, was one of the first people to recognize Bode's incredible talent. George, who was working for the K2 ski company at the time, was the only manufacturer's representative who would give the time of day (and ski equipment) to this unconventional-thinking ski racer. In fact, the first skis that Bode received from George were ones that he had first given his wife to use! The skis were a pair of short, shaped skis that you see used now, but in 1994, nobody used this type of ski for ski racing. With the new skis, and a new attitude, Bode almost instantly started to dominate the junior racing scene. Bode, in many of his interviews, and in his recently published book, mentions George as one of the people most important to the success he is enjoying now. Mark Hutchinson Randolph |
