WASHINGTON — Betty H. Hallinger, 82, died January 19, 2006 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. She was born November 30, 1923 in Philadelphia, Penna.; the daughter of Robert F. and Arlean I. (Reed) Herr. She attended the George School in Newtown, Penna. and later Barnard College in New York City, N.Y., and also took classes at Beaver College in Wyncote, Penna. On February 5, 1947 she married W. Potter Hallinger. They lived most of their married life in Wyncote, Penna. Her husband died November 8, 1964. She moved to Washington in 1976 to be closer to her daughter, Linda. For many years she has been a self-employed indexer. She was a member of Abington Friends Meeting in Abington, Penna., the America Society of Indexers and the Vermont Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading and bird watching. Survivors include two sons: Christopher H. Hallinger of Fairfield, Iowa; and David H. Hallinger of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters: Francean H. McClain of Wahiawa, Hawaii; and Linda Hallinger of Washington. She was predeceased by her husband, and a grandson, Robert H. Richley in 1984. Calling hours were held Monday, January 23 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea. Burial will be at a later date at the Fish Cemetery in Washington.
