William C. Green BETHEL- William C. "Bill" Green, 67, of "Bethel, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 upon arrival at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born Jan. 3, 1939 in Randolph, the son of Theodore J.W. Green, Sr. and Marie Hartshorn Green. He was raised in Stockbridge, and graduated from Whitcomb High School in Bethel in 1957. He attended Colby College in Maine, and the University of Bridgeport, Conn.; and received a Masters Degree in Library Science and History from C.W. Post College in Long Island, N.Y. He served in the Army National Guard. He married Sandra Stearns July 13, 1985 in Bethel. He had been previously married to Lucy P. Green. He had been a Library Media Specialist for Sachem Central School District in Long Island, N.Y. for 29 years, until retiring to Bethel in 1994. He was co-coordinator of the Bethel Area Food Shelf and was a member of the Green Mountain Civil War Roundtable. He was an active member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph, serving on various Peace & Justice Advocacy Committees. He enjoyed reading and watching war movies, and was a war history buff. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Green of Bethel; a daughter, Priscilla Koch of Patchogue, Long Island, N.Y.; two children by marriage: Todd Harvey of Shelburne and Katrina Harvey of South Hero; a brother, Jack Green of Stockbridge; a sister, Dorothy Wallace of Rutland, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Jan. 23 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph, with Rev. Kathy Eddy officiating. Marilyn Polson was the organist. The congregation sang "Bring Many Names." Rev. Robin Junker shared scripture, and read from the book "The Next Place" on behalf of Bill's grandson, Alex. Robert Eddy sang "Come Labor On." Rev. Kathy Eddy led a time of remembrance. Those sharing were Tom Schersten, Betty Edson, Howard Coffin, Jackie Harvey, Norman Case, Carroll Ketchum, Marv Harvey, Lindy Sayward, Muriel Garner, Joe from Vermont Food Bank, Christopher Junker, Sue Terry, Peter Butterfield, Celinda Robinson, Mikala Sutherland, and Rev. Eddy. The service closed with the congregation singing "I'll Sing a Song for the Saints of God." A reception followed in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at the Maplewood Cemetery on Stock-bridge Common. The family prefers contributions in his memory be made to the Bethel Area Food Shelf, c/o Mary Ann Batcheller, P.O. Box 353, Bethel, Vt. 05032; or to Bethany Church, 30 N.
