Evan K. Mears

HINESBURG — Evan Keith Mears, 1, of Hinesburg, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, from the rare disorder, Menkes disease.

He was born January 3, 2005, in Burlington. Throughout his illness, he received the best of care from the doctors, nurses and staff at Fletcher Allen Children’s Hospital. He always found comfort in the arms of his caretakers and family members as they held him closely.

Survivors include his parents, Laura Grandy and Daniel Mears, and his sister, Jenna, all of Hinesburg; his grandparents, Paul and Joanne Grandy of Randolph; his grandmother, Anna Mears of Stockbridge; his great-grandmother, Doris Mears of Bethel; his great-grandmother, Ruth Grandy of Yalesville, Conn.; his great-grandparents, Lawrence and Bettyanne Soltesz of Cottageville, S.C.; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A private funeral service will be held in his memory. Contributions may be sent to Fletcher Allen Children’s Hospital, Burlington, Vt., or to the National Organization for Rare Disorders, P.O. Box 1968, Danbury, Conn., 06813-1968.
