Ghost Wrestlers Compete
In Essex Two-Day Tourney

This past weekend the Ghost wrestlers traveled to Essex for the annual two-day tournament. The Ghosts wrestled Friday afternoon and into the night and again all day Saturday. They came out with two place finishes in the tournament.

Simpson Takes Third

Wes Simpson went into the tournament seeded second. The first round he had a bye that put him in the quarters. Simpson wrestled Josh Kernan from Harwood and was ahead in the match 8-2, but got injured and lost the match with a minor decision.

Simpson recovered for the second day and won the next four matches. His first opponent on Saturday was Eric Wilbur from Whitehall, and he pinned him in the first period. Next was Kyle Beane from Mount Mansfield. Simpson also pinned him with a fall time of 2:58. Simpson’s next match was against Jake Montroy from Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Simpson defeated him 13-3. In his consi-finals match Simpson wrestled Josh Kernan again and defeated him 8-1, giving him the third place finish.

Wright Gets Sixth

James Wright started out the day with a win against Jake Gimmler from Whitehall, N.Y. He then went on to wrestle Kevin Youngman from Mount Mansfield, pinning him with a fall time of 2:58.

On Saturday, Wright wrestled in semi’s but was defeated 8-0 by Elijah Treft from Lisbon, Maine. Wright’s next match was against Scott Little from Milton. Wright was defeated in the third period by a fall. He came out with a sixth place finish.

Other Matches

Wrestling in the 160-pound weight class was Ben Adams. Adams began the day wrestling Seth Fletcher from Whitehall, N.Y. and pinned him in the second period. Later Friday night he wrestled Kade Sewell from Beekmantown, N.Y., but was pinned in the last period. Saturday Adams wrestled Nick Adams but was defeated 5-1.

Seth Dezan won his first match of the day with a major decision of 7-1. His second opponent was Dustin Crocker from Mr. Ararat, Maine. Dezan was pinned in the third period. Saturday Dezan began the day with a win against Josh Mitchell of Ogdensburg, N.Y. with a decision of 4-1. In his final match of the day, Dezan wrestled Jevin Carruth from Mount Mansfield, but was defeated in the second period.

Nick Small’s first match was against Nick Gordon of Essex. Small was defeated 6-2. Next he wrestled Bijan Nekoie from Deering and won with a decision of 4-3. On Saturday, Small wrestled Nick Carmos from Massabesic, Maine but was defeated in the first period.

Representing the Ghosts in the 145-pound weight class was Stephen Bent. His first match was against Derek Cloutier from Massabesic, Maine. Bent was defeated in the second period, losing 13-5.

David Maxfield started out the day wrestling Jacob Losse from Essex. Maxfield was pinned in the last period. He had a bye in the next round, and wrestled Joey Roberst from Beekmantown, N.Y. Saturday morning. Maxfield was defeated in the third period.

Tom Kirkpatrick from Northfield wrestled in the 215-pound weight class. His first match was against a wrestler from Deering, Maine. He was defeated in the first period. His next match was against A. Langley from Ogdensburg, N.Y. He was pinned in the first period.

Adam Kenyan began the day with a win against Steven Chamberlin from Champlain Valley Union. Kenyon pinned him in 1 minute, 4 seconds. His next opponent was Jared Knox from Massabesic, Maine. Kenyan was pinned in the first period. On Saturday his first match was against Jon Murray of Fair Haven. Kenyon pinned his opponent in the second period. His final match was against A. Langley from Ogdensburg, N.Y. Kenyan was defeated in the first period.
