At 8:15 Wednesday morning, every student, faculty and staff person at Randolph Elementary School picked up a book and read enthusiastically in the month-long "DEAR" (Drop Everything And Read) event.

The goal of this year’s "I Love To Read Month" is to break last year’s total of 3,230 hours.

Several programs have been developed to help break the record, including: "Camp Readalot" for families on February 16; Readers from the Community; an "Arabian Nights Reading Area;" and a "Team Challenge" with competition between various grades.

If students are successful, they’ll get to assign their principals to one of three fates: Shirley Stewart and Erica McLaughlin will be turned into wicked witches from Oz, lost children dressed in their "jamies" and looking for Peter and Wendy in Never-Never-Land, or naughty fairytale girls Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood.
