On February 2 the Royals’ boys team went to Wells River to take on Blue Mountain and the Royals played well after coming off just their third loss of the season. They won convincingly, 56-33. In the first quarter the Royals started off right away with a 4-0 run and led at the end of the quarter, 13-10. Then SoRo’s offense and defense kicked into high gear against the Bucks as the Royals scored 18 to their 6. As they went into half time the Royals had a 15-point lead, 31-16. The Royals came out of the locker room on just as much of a roll in the third quarter as they ended the half with, as the Royals scored 17 points compared to just five for the Bucks. With one quarter left to play in the game, the score was 48-21. In the fourth the Royals slowed it down, and they scored eight, all coming from Miles Ellis. The Bucks were able to score 12 to close the margin slightly. In second quarter the Royals’ defense held the Bucks scoreless for 5:21 as they didn’t score from 7:21 to 2:00 minutes left in the half. Again in the third quarter SoRo held the Bucks to another dry spell as they were held at 21 for the final five minutes of quarter. The Royals were able to spread their scoring around as Nick Enright led the way with 16, Dave Manning added 14, and Ellis finished with 12 after the eight-point fourth. Win @ Twinfield The Royals went up to Marshfield on Monday, the 6th, to play Twinfield and came away with another win, 63-55. In the first quarter the Royals were able to score 13 and get a two-point lead as the Trojans only scored 11. The Royals came out in the second quarter and had their best quarter offensively when they scored 20 while Twinfield put in 16. SoRo had a six-point lead heading into the locker room at the half, 33-27. In the third quarter SoRo was slightly out-scored as the Trojans added 14 to their 12 to give the Royals a 45-41 lead heading into the final eight minutes of the game. The fourth quarter saw SoRo battle back and forth with Twinfield until late in the final minutes as the Royals hit six free throws in the last 45 seconds of the game. The Royals added four points to their lead with an 18-14 fourth quarter and with key shots down the stretch, they finished off Twinfield, 63-55. The Royals’ Manning had his season high and the game high, as he netted 33 points with six coming in the first, nine in the second, eight in the third, and he finished the game’s final quarter with 10. Manning was seven-for-nine from the line and he hit 13 shots from the floor. Jordan White added 13 behind Manning. The Royals (11-3) played at Rivendell Wednesday night. They play Rochester at home in the Palace after having three straight away games on Friday and then they host Lamoille Union at VTC on Monday, Feb. 13. ____________ |
