Ahee’s Art On Display at Gifford

Montpelier artist Jesse Ahee’s work will be on display in Gifford Medical Center’s Birthing Center in July and August.

A Vermont resident for seven years, Ahee says she is inspired by the state’s natural beauty. A pastel artist, poet, singer and songwriter, she was also a member of the board of directors for The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in Michigan in 1992, and is currently working on four children’s stories.

Ahee graduated from Vermont College of Norwich University in 1999, with a bachelor’s degree in the subjects of art, writing and women’s studies. Her exhibit at Gifford’s Birthing Center is inspired by her daughter’s first pregnancy and birth and is entitled "With Child."

Ahee recently gave a presentation to teen mothers at the Brook Street School in Barre. The presentation taught the young mothers her process and she spoke about the inspiration for her subject of childbirth. She has also taught art classes for children and guided individuals in creative counseling. She was the first executive director for Studio Place Arts in Barre and was the First Night Director in Montpelier in 2002 and 2003.

There is no cost to view the exhibit. The Birthing Center, a haven for families wanting low-intervention births, is open daily. Signs direct visitors to the Birthing Center on the south end of the hospital or ask for directions at the welcome desk just inside the main entrance.
