International Youth Exchange
Photos Sought for Exhibit

A remarkable number of people in the Randolph area have been involved in International Youth Exchanges over the past 25 years, and images of those experiences will be featured in an art exhibit, "Seeing Eye To Eye," at the Chandler Gallery this fall.

If you are one of the people who has learned about the world outside of Vermont and New Hampshire during one of these exchanges with Rotary or AFS, the organizers of this exhibit hope you will share your experiences. Do you have a photograph that visually communicates an aspect of being a youth exchange student that they could add to the exhibit?

Your photographs could be of people, places, things, or anything that you wish to share with your community about being part of a family in a different culture for a year. Images that have been collected include meeting an Aboriginal elder, a Pope’s passing, and Divali fireworks. It can be a print or a digital file that will be copied or printed out to include in the exhibit.

Further questions or images can be submitted to Maya Robinson (who is curating the exhibit) by e-mail (mayarobinson@mac.com) or by regular mail at 128 North Road, Bethel, Vt. 05032. Robinson’s goal is to include as many as she can in the exhibit and on a web site and she will include at least one image from everyone who submits a photograph.

This exhibit, which will display photographs that reflect what being a foreign exchange student is like, is Robinson’s senior project for Whitcomb High School. Last year she was a Rotary Exchange student in India sponsored by the Bethel Rotary. She hopes the show will share with the Vermont community what being an exchange student means and encourage younger students to explore the world.

"Seeing Eye To Eye" will be on display from Oct 21- Nov 19 at the Chandler Gallery on Main St. in Randolph. Photographs should be submitted by September 20 to allow time to prepare the exhibit.
