It’s Here! New Randolph

Susan Porter, wife of RUHS math teacher Harvie Porter, did the heavy lifting on behalf of the RUHS Music Boosters to produce the new local phone book. From the looks of it, selling them won't be a problem. (Herald / Bob Eddy)

Phone Book Available

Hot off the press, the new 2006-07 phone directory for Randolph, Brookfield, and Braintree arrives in town this week. It will not, however, as in the past, arrive in your mailbox.

Sponsored by the RUHS Music Boosters, proceeds from the book go to support and enrich the music program at RUHS. Smiling from the cover is recent RUHS graduate Katie Porter, who was chosen as a 2006 All-State flute player.

Music Boosters treasurer Susan Porter explained that the book will not be mailed to local residents, as in the past, because mailing costs were prohibitively high, and many people did not realize that they were expected to send a donation in exchange for receiving the book. This newest version, which replaces the 2003 edition, will be sold for three dollars. The Boosters have printed 4,000 copies.

Phone book sales will kick off this Thursday, Aug. 31 at the RUHS boys’ soccer game; Friday, Sept. 1 at Shaw’s Supermarket from 3-6 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 2 at the OSSU building on Central St. from 9 a.m.-12 noon; Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the Main St. gazebo from 12 noon-6 p.m.; and Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Shaw’s from 3-6 p.m.

"After that," notes Porter, "it will be available at other places and events around town, and eventually at several permanent locations, to be announced later in September."

A new feature in this latest phone book, which Porter explained took about nine months to complete, is a number of photographs of RUHS music students, taken by Roger Ennis and Porter herself. Not necessarily a new feature, but very helpful, is a fine arts calendar of events in the back, as well as a section of "yellow pages" in the center of the book.

Porter said the Music Boosters are grateful to the 135 area businesses and organizations who advertised in the book, and each one will receive a complimentary copy of it within the next week or so.

Anyone who is unable to get to any of the above locations to purchase a book, may do so by sending their request, along with four dollars (the extra dollar is to cover the cost of mailing) to the Music Boosters, c/o RUHS, 15 Forest St., Randolph, Vt. 05060.

If anyone has questions about anything relating to the book, they are welcome to call Susan Porter at 728-4265.
