Vermont Technical College last week welcomed an incoming class of 728 students, exactly five more than last year's final count of 723, a spokesman said this week. "At this point it is a record enrollment," said Lisa Helme. "We hope to add a few more students over the next couple of days." Applications, too, were up this year, she said, as VTC received 1768 applications compared to 1658 last year, a 6% increase. Some 14% of the incoming students are from out of state, including all New England States, Virginia, Texas, and New York. Massachusetts has the biggest representation, with 31 Bay Staters joining the incoming class. The Randolph Center school also will have students from several foreign countries, including China, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Philippines, Canada, and Vietnam. VTC professors are teaching at 10 locations around the state (Randolph, Williston, Brattleboro, Bennington, Newport, St Albans, Middlebury, White River, Springfield and Rutland). The big new freshman class will spark the overall enrollment to a new record of slightly under 1400. Both Randolph and Williston locations are up in enrollment Nursing is VTC's largest major, followed by electrical/computer, and business |
