Medieval Archery Competition In Brookfield This Saturday "The Shire of Panther Vale, of the Society for Creative Anachronism" (medieval re-creation) will host "The Lost Tip Archery Competition" this Saturday, Sept. 23. Open to the public, this event will take place at the Goodrich Homestead at 389 Voghell Road in Randolph from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the entrance. Throughout the day, there will be many different events featuring medieval archery, such as a distance competition, "Royal Rounds," a SCA-wide archery competition with rules designed to allow participants to keep track of their ability and where they rank within the worldwide organization; and a clout shoot (lawn darts with arrows). There will also be a lunch feast (a faithfully researched and produced medieval meal) and an arts and sciences display. The Society for Creative Anachronism (www.sca.org) is a worldwide group of individuals who enjoy re-creating the middle ages, without having to suffer any of the negatives of the era. The organization aims to be as faithful to this historic time period as possible, without sacrificing any of our modern advances. They dress up in medieval garb, ranging from Roman togas to Scottish Jacobite plaid (full kilts) and in between, with all costumes fairly well researched and assembled as accurately as possible. As a group, society members participate in large and small scale events and gatherings where they learn about such things as how to make shoes, how to work metal, to carve wood, and more. They also practice medieval martial activities such as armored combat, fencing, weapons throwing and archery. For more information and directions to the event, please call Erin Wukitsch at 802-522-6081, e-mail cbonai@yahoo.com or check online at www.panthervale.com. ____________ |
