Official Thanks
The Randolph selectboard took official notice last week of the civic project that has been quietly pursued all summer by John and Ruth Lutz, who live at the top of Sand Hill in the village. Completely on their own, the couple has decided to mow, not only their own lawn, but the town-owned land on the shoulder of Elm Street all the way to the bottom of Sand Hill. Then they decided to mow the substantial flat lawn at the bottom of the hill, as well. The result has been a whole new look for Elm Street—sunnier, brighter, neater. Just plain better. At the suggestion of a citizen, the selectboard took time Sept. 11 to make note of the contribution. A unanimous resolution was passed "to send a letter to John and Ruth Lutz expressing our deep appreciation for their civic-minded contribution to the town of Randolph." (The letter had not actually been received as of yesterday.) It has not escaped the notice of Sand Hill regulars that the newly-mown shoulder exposes an excellent site for a future sidewalk. Currently, young and old pedestrians share the Elm Street pavement with cars and trucks while climbing or descending the steep hill. (Herald photo / Bob Eddy) |
