Chelsea Girls Win in OT
By Mary Childs

On September 14 the Chelsea girls traveled to Blue Mountain and lost 2-0. With both teams battling for the ball they went into halftime with a 0-0 tie.

At the beginning of the second half the Bucks came out strong. Fantasia Darling scored their first goal after the ball was crossed to the center. Several minutes later Kera Sauter sent the ball below the crossbar and into the net.

Laura Upham had 15 saves for the Lady Devils while the Chelsea offense took eight shots on the Blue Mountain goalie.

Win in OT

Saturday, Sept. 16, the Chelsea girls pulled away with an overtime, 2-1 victory against the Rivendell Raptors.

Rivendell’s Kasey McGross opened the scoring on a corner kick giving Rivendell a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half Robyn Kennedy sent the ball to the net off an assist from Althea Spencer. Throughout the second half the Lady Devils continued to possess the ball on the offensive end by playing a passing game. Erica Ward, Marisa Osgood, Kim Upham, Lindsey Smith and Kennedy kept the offensive end rolling. Tough defense and pressure from midfielders Hillary Bonosara and Brenda Manning, and from fullbacks also helped the offensive end.

With the score tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation time, the Red Devils went into overtime pumped and ready to roll. It wasn’t until the second 10-minute half that Osgood sent the ball to Smith who then kicked it into the goal. Smith’s golden goal gave the Chelsea Devils their second win of the season.

Loss to Thetford

Tuesday the Chelsea girls lost a hard fought game, 3-1, to Thetford. The Thetford offense came out strong in the first half, giving Thetford a 2-0 lead into the half.

Chelsea came out to the second half ready to play. Brenda Manning received a cross from Kennedy and put the ball to the back of the net for her first varsity soccer goal. However Chelsea only closed the gap to 2-1 for a short time until Thetford Academy struck again to give them a 3-1 victory by the end of the game.

The Chelsea girls’ record falls to 2-3.
