Delmoni & Grant Chamber Concert

At Chandler Music Hall Oct. 7

Chandler Music Hall in Randolph will host two distinguished New York area musicians well known to the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival audiences when pianist Cameron Grant and violinist/violist Arturo Delmoni will perform an evening of chamber music Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph.

Both musicians perform with the New York City Ballet and both have been members of the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival ensembles in the past two years. Their program will include a sonata for violin and continuo in A major by Vivaldi; the Beethoven Sonata for Violin and Piano #5 in F, Opus 24, known as the "Spring" sonata; the Brahms sonata for Viola and Piano in f, Opus 120, perhaps more familiar in its version for clarinet and piano; and the Debussy Sonata for Violin and Piano in g minor. Delmoni will also offer several virtuoso violin pieces.

Grant joined the New York City Ballet in 1984, became a solo pianist there two years later, and was appointed pianist of the NYCB orchestra in 1998. He has performed all the major "piano ballets" of the company and toured as a featured performer with the company on trips to Paris, Edinburgh, Athens, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Italy, Russia and Denmark. In 2004, he appeared in the Emmy Award-winning "Live from Lincoln Center" broadcast of New York City Ballet, as well as being invited (along with three other members of NYCB), to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors before the President.

Grant has performed extensively outside the ballet as well. He was pianist with the Leonardo Trio for 15 years, appearing across the United States and in Europe. As a member of the Grant-Winn duo-piano team, he was a prizewinner at the Munich Competition and performed 200 concerts in the US, Canada, and Germany. As a soloist, he toured Japan and the Middle East, and made his New York debut at Town Hall. His performances have been described by New York Times music critic Alan Koznin as having "polish, precision, warmth, and clarity of sound."

Delmoni has been described by cellist Yo-Yo Ma as "an enormously gifted musician and an impeccable violinist. His playing style is unique, and his gorgeous sound is reminiscent of that of great violinists from a bygone era." He is a first violinist with the New York City ballet and has also guest conducted. During the 2002-03 concert season, Delmoni celebrated the 40th anniversary of his Carnegie Hall debut (at age 14), where he played Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Little Orchestra Society of New York.

Delmoni has appeared with the St. Louis, Dallas, Spokane, Jupiter, El Paso, Glendale, and Tucson Symphonies; the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston; the California Chamber Symphony; the Rhode Island, Brooklyn, Boston, Omaha, and Kansas City Philharmonics; and the Boston Pops. He has appeared as a recitalist throughout the United States and in Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Hong Kong. As a chamber musician, he has performed with such well-known colleagues as Pinchas Zukerman, Elmar Oliveira, Emanuel Ax, Nathaniel Rosen, Jon Kimura Parker, Jeffrey Kahane, and Dudley Moore.
