Stone Soup Becomes
A Royalton Tradition

Herald photograph on the South Royalton Green by Bob Eddy

Randy Leavitt and John McHugh, founders of the Royalton Chowder Society, brought "stone soup" for 250 to a boil in a 19th century cast-iron cauldron last Thursday.

The 35-gallon kettle was loaned to the society by the Powers family of Royalton, who originally used it for scalding hogs.

According to Leavitt and McHugh, the soup boil, made entirely of donated vegetables, is now an annual event, set for the Thursday following the Tunbridge World’s Fair.
