On Saturday Sept. 16, The Rockets cruised to a 13-0 win over Craftsbury on the road. Rochester showed off their superior scoring ability all day in this blowout.

John Colton led all scorers with three goals. Tanner Haskins, Jace Curtis, and Michael Cox each added two, Ethan Lanpher, Ethan White, Doug Kingsbury, and Harlan Hopkins also scored.

With three starters (Cullen Haskins, Liam McKinley, and Taylor Fuller) on the bench with injuries, younger players were forced to step up and played an important role in the win. Now the team has some comfort knowing it has a bit more depth on its bench. Lucas Pelletier’s steady performance in goal played a big part in the shut out.

Tough Loss to SoRo

On Sept. 14, the Rochester varsity boys’ soccer team traveled to South Royalton to take on the Royals. The Rockets looked good for about 20 minutes until SoRo stepped up their play. The Rockets’ collapse locked up the game. The final score was 6-1, SoRo. The single Rochester goal was scored by Tanner Haskins off an assist from Colton. Rochester had two players on the bench with injuries and three others playing with injuries. Staying healthy has proven to be a problem for most of the season. If the Rockets could remain injury-free they could be a serious contender for the state championship.

Rockets Fall to Sharon

The Rockets lost one more game at home last week; Sharon won 6-1, and four of Rochester’s five loses have been by that same score.

Coach Brad Leathers said to his team, "That was our best 6-1 loss this season." The Rockets played their hearts out every second of the game against a very talented TSA team. "Those kids played like champions that second half," said one fan.

Senior Lanpher scored the Rockets’ one goal as the second half wound down. It was his second goal of the season. Eighth grader White had a few good looks but couldn’t capitalize; he’ll be a force to be reckoned with in a few years.

Nail Biter Loss

The Rockets lost 1-0 at home in a double OT thriller against the Twinfield Trojans. This was the kind of game that whoever had the ball last was going to win.

The last time these two teams met was the infamous playoff game in the snow in which the Trojans topped Rochester to knock them out of the championship race.

This game increased the competitiveness of the two teams; this could be a great rivalry in the making.

Blue Mtn. Routs Rockets

The final score was 9-2 at Blue Mountain on Tuesday. Tanner Haskins scored both of the Rockets’ goals. Rochester has had several blowouts against them this season, but there are signs of hope.

Rochester did seem unable to slow down the momentum of the Bucks’ offensive attack Tuesday. With this loss, Rochester’s hopes of finishing over .500 are over in this rebuilding season.
