The Randolph boys soccer team concluded a successful week of soccer with their tie of Montpelier yesterday, in a double overtime play. They notched two wins last week. The first game of the week was on the 20th against Lake Region away. The team came off slow from the long bus ride and were not at their best. With chances each way the goalies came up big and at the end of regulation it was 0-0. Seven minutes into the first overtime there was a foul and Thomas Jacobs took a free kick around the half-line. Jacobs served it in and Alex Green put a head on it, placing it into open space. The ball was touched and was rolling out of bounds when Kyle Connolly put the golden goal in. Win over Stowe The next game was home last Friday against a strong team in Stowe. The team passed well and had opportunities but it was Stowe who struck first off a header from a free kick. Randolph stayed strong and 10 minutes later Peter Wittmann beamed one past the goalie. Randolph kept the intensity up and soon, off a free kick from Jacobs, Wittmann scored again by beating the goalie to a spot and heading it in. Shortly before the end of the first half Stowe was able to get past the defense and put one in, knotting it up at 2-2. The second half was less offensive minded, with tough D being played on both sides. However halfway through the half Jacobs had a free kick from outside the 18 and, after a deflection, found the back of the net. Randolph stayed strong and the game ended at 3-2, Randolph. Tie with Solons Yesterday Randolph faced Montpelier at home and worked them to a 0-0 tie. Randolph played well and had many offensive opportunities including a cross-bar shot and a one on zero breakaway with only the goalie in the area. Randolph is now 10th in Division II soccer with a 4-2-3 record, and they have the toughest part of their schedule coming up. Their next four games include three top three teams in DII soccer and a strong Division I team. Randolph plays Peoples Academy away Thursday. ____________ |
