The Whitcomb Lady Hornets continue to impress as they claimed their third season shutout Monday against the United Christian Academy Crusaders with a 4-0 win in Bethel. For the third time this season Molly Taylor claimed the triple crown with three of the four goals. Taylor scored the first and unassisted goal when she dribbled the ball into the nets past the overextended UCA goalie, Ashley-Jensen just nine seconds short of the 10 minute mark of the game and followed with the second Whitcomb goal at 17:45 off a Meredith Kill cross. Taylor completed her collection during the second half at 22:32 when she dribbled the ball downfield and booted the ball in on the left side. Foreign exchange student Kerstin Kraeutlein kneed the third and final goal of the first half in off a perfectly arched corner kick by Tracy Zisselsberger at 34:26. UCA goalie Ashley Jensen made 16 saves while Maggie Eddy made 6 saves. Win Over Concord The visiting Concord Wildcats were more like kittens as the Whitcomb Lady Hornets tamed their guests 4-zip for their second shutout. It took less than a minute (58 seconds ) for the Hornets to pounce and send the ball to the back of the net when Taylor received a cross from Tracy Zisselsberger and planted the orb for a never-ending lead. Taylor also scored the second goal off a pass from Chelsie Brown that Whitcomb sent between the posts at 21:59. A third and final first half goal went in at 27:55 when Zisselsberger dribbled the ball past goalie Christa Young off an Allison Richards throw-in that earned Richards her first varsity assist. Leading 3-0 at the break Coach Zisselsberger was able to give his freshmen the advantage of experience and playing time that also has enabled his starters the luxury of periods of rest that Whitcomb has not been able to have in the recent past. The Hornets finished their scoring at 9:57 when Zisselsberger scored off a direct kick capping the victory. Young made 13 saves off 17 shots and Eddy was perfect with seven saves off seven shots. Whitcomb travels to South Ryegate Saturday and faces the Blue Mountain Bucks for the first time this season and travels to Sharon to face the Phoenix on Tuesday before returning to the home field next Thursday to face the Craftsbury Chargers. Satur-day’s game starts at 11:00 while both other games start at 4:00. ____________ |
