Second ‘Art of Medicine’ Exhibit The second annual "Art of Medicine" exhibit open house will take place Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the office of Chris Soares, MD at 40 South Main Street in Randolph. The first exhibit at Dr. Soares’ office was a great success, with 12 students from surrounding schools displaying their art for all to see over the past year. Those works of art have been returned to their creators and a dozen new works of art will be revealed. Originally, Dr. Soares covered the walls of his office with his own children’s creative art exhibits. There were so many positive comments from patients, that he thought it would be a fantastic idea to involve all young people in the local area and allow them a chance to show off their artistic creations. In a cooperative effort with the local school systems, Dr. Soares says he is proud to display the joyful art of children of all ages enrolled in schools from Braintree, Brookfield, Bethel, Randolph and Royalton. This art will be displayed in his office throughout the year. Each year, 12 works of art will be chosen by the art teachers of the local school systems to be displayed in the Victorian building that houses Dr. Soares’ ophthalmology practice. The previous year’s displays of art will be safely returned to the original artists to make room for the new works. Over 4,000 people each year will have a chance to view and appreciate these creations. Soares notes that this project is possible through the dedication of the following people: art teachers Rebecca Carleton, Beth Karlen, Patricia Cushing, Wendy Wells, Candace VandeGriek, and Cynthia McPhetres; and framing specialist, Pauline Garner. The student artists whose works will be on display for the next year are Avery Corey, Maya Cruikshank, John Gorton, Kate Jickling, Tyler Killian, Alyssa Miller, Jaina Rich, Maya Robinson, Gabriella Sharier, Unique Small, and Josh Turk. ____________ |
