Kelly Wins Workshop at Cartooning School

Emily Kelly of Randolph, a 16-year-old patron of Kimball Public Library, is one of three winners of Library Quest, Vermont's young adult summer reading program.

Emily, in a statewide drawing, won a week-long comics workshop donated by the new cartooning school in White River Junction, Center for Cartoon Studies.

The "Creating Comics" course will be held in the summer of 2007. Four professional cartoonists will guide workshop students as they create and self-publish a series of comics.

To be eligible for the prize, Emily had to complete a minimum of nine tasks over the summer that included volunteering at the library, reading a Green Mountain Award book, attending a library program, and answering a series of online Library Quest scavenger hunts.

Her participation in Kimball Public Library's young adult summer reading program also enabled her to win her choice of local prizes. She chose a gift certificate from Cover to Cover bookstore.
