‘Really Big Weekend’ of Events In Little Town of Strafford
By John Freitag

Every now and then the little town of Strafford has a really big weekend and it looks like this Saturday and Sunday are shaping up to be one of those.

The Lord’s Acre Harvest Supper, Silent Auction and Musical Show all take place Saturday, Oct. 7 at Barrett Hall. There are shows at 4 and 7:30 p.m. and supper seatings at 5, 5:45 and 6:30 p.m. The silent auction is ongoing through supper. Tickets are available at Coburns Store and at the door.

This year’s cider meister, Eric Lopez, will give instruction on the finer points of apple peeling at the annual 19th Century Apple & Harvest Festival, this Sunday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Justin Morrill Homestead in Strafford.

The whole family can enjoy pressing and tasting cider, horse-drawn wagon rides, period games, orchard tours, apple treats, an apple pie contest, children's art table, and more. For more details call the Homestead at 765-4484.

Also on Sunday, Oct. 8, the Strafford Historical Society will have an Open House from 2–4 p.m. at the Historical Society Room in the Brick Store in Strafford to showcase a new exhibit entitled "Old Maps of Strafford."

At 2:30 p.m., surveyor and Strafford tax mapper Gordon Tuthill will talk about the origins of early roads. This is a good exhibit for those who enjoy learning about Strafford history, and will be of particular interest to those interested in the upcoming issue of ancient roads and which of these old rights of way the town should keep.
