Called Naïve After reading the article in the Herald reporting on Mr. Fox’s critique of Rep. Sandy Haas' performance in the House this past session, it was obvious to me that Mr. Fox is naïve about the workings of the government by his statement "We have too many boards, staff and committees that are unnecessarily complicating our lives." Doesn’t he realize that almost everything that is done in the state house is developed and hashed out in the committee rooms? His other big complaint was that Rep. Haas never checked with the selectboard before she voted on issues that might affect some towns. Rep. Haas does get input from voters in her district. Furthermore, on almost every issue that will affect Vermonters, the House and Senate hold public hearings to get input. Everyone is welcome to attend that would include selectboard members of every town. As a member of the community and a justice of the peace I am well aware of the fact that Mr. Fox does not like committees or community input. I have attended several meetings where committees have given reports of their progress and/or asked for assistance. Mr. Fox is very condescending or just rude in his reply. Mr. Fox’s campaign slogan states that he is experienced, practical, competent, and accessible. He may be practical and competent, but I am afraid that he is not experienced or accessible enough to represent our district in the House of Representatives. Ola O’Dell Bethel |
