For the third game in a row the Whitcomb Lady Hornets scored four unanswered goals for another shutout victory, their fifth of the season, this time against the Cabot Huskies.

The Lady Hornets got the ball rolling quickly, scoring just 55 seconds in, for their seventh win in a row when freshman Meredith Kill took the ball in off a Tracy Zisselsberger cross. The Hornets added two more first half goals when Molly Taylor dribbled the ball in twice, the first at 13:04 and the second at 17:22.

Zisselsberger completed the Hornet tally at 24:37 in the second half when she scored off a pass from Kerstin Kraeutlein. Paige Haggett had eight saves for Cabot and Maggie Eddy had three for Whitcomb. Taylor leads the Hornets in scoring with a baker’s dozen in goals scored and Zisselsberger is second with seven.

Whitcomb plays Craftsbury today at home and travels to Chelsea on Tuesday, Oct. 10 to face the Red Devils in their only meeting of the season. Both games start at 4:00.

Loss to Bucks

The Lady Hornets suffered another "on the road" loss at the hands of the Blue Mountain Bucks, who blanked the Hornets. Lady Bucks Carmen Phillips and Kiera Sauter combined for a goal and an assist each as BMU scored a goal in each half.

Phillips scored off an assist by Sauter in the first half and Sauter scored off a Phillips pass in the second half in the 2-0 outing. Phillips, a regular starter at fullback, was moved to the forward position as "a strategy" to beat Whitcomb and one that paid off for coach Glenn Hatch and his Bucks. "It was a good game, pretty much a defensive game and a really big win for us" Hatch said.

Emily Wright earned 11 saves of 13 shots for Whitcomb.

Win Over Phoenix

The Hornets scored twice in the first half and took that all the way to the finish as they defeated TSA in Sharon on Tuesday.

Taylor scored off a cross from Zisselsberger at 4:31 of the first half and Chelsie Brown scored unassisted off a direct kick at 24:33 giving Whitcomb all they needed as they shut out the Phoenix. Whitcomb controlled the action throughout most of the game before TSA put on the press through the last four minutes and managed to get off two nice shots.

Zannah Pierce had 14 saves for TSA and Laurel Adams had 10 in her first outing as goalie.
