Tough Week For
Whitcomb Boys’ Team
By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier

The Hornet boys traveled to Cabot and faced the Huskies and returned to Bethel intact with a 3-1 victory. Brian Ward scored twice and assisted on the other goal scored by Joe Kill. Evan Abbott and Ryan Litchfield earned assists in the outing. Brian Ward led the Hornets with eight goals followed by Chris Kerr-Ayer with six and Joe Kill with four. Ward also leads the team in assists with six followed again by Ryan Litchfield with three and Kerr-Ayer two.

Whitcomb hosts Craftsbury today and travels to Chelsea on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Both games start at 4:00.

Big Loss to Bucks

The Hornets hit the cross bar three times, missed three open goal shots, missed two free kicks and failed to net a penalty kick as they were trampled by the Blue Mountain Bucks 7-zip in South Ryegate last Saturday.

"It was just a very weird game for us" said coach Aaron Isham of the shutout loss to the Bucks. BMU’s first four goals came off the combo of Chuck Jobin and Shane O’Donnell-Leach.

Both teams finished with 15 shots apiece with the Hornets out-shooting the Bucks 10 to 7 during the second half. Joel Wright had 8 saves for the Hornets in goal.

Loss to TSA

For the second time this season The Sharon Academy and Whitcomb faced each other under extremely wet conditions and like the first time the Phoenix handed the Hornets their second shutout earning TSA the sweep of their neighboring rivals.

TSA scored twice in the first half and then went big, scoring three more unanswered goals in the second half. Danny Moore scored an unassisted goal two minutes and seven seconds into the game putting the Phoenix out in front where they remained. At 19:33 Tim Luckey took a Phineas Ellis pass and planted the ball for a two goal advantage that they took into the break.

In the second half Willy Ruiz passed the ball to Ellis who sent the ball in at the four minute and five second mark. Luckey scored his second goal of the game at 16:26 off a Bobby Farrell cross, and Max Dybvig scored off a deflected ball that Otto Pierce delivered for the fifth and final goal of the game late in the half.

Whitcomb stands at 4-4-1 with four games remaining in the regular season.
