By Mary Childs

On September 28 the Chelsea Red Devil Ladies held the Sharon Phoenix’ team scoreless for the second half and OT period to come away with a 2-2 tie.

Sharon Academy was the first to score early in the first half earning Sharon a 1-0 lead. Chelsea started to find their rhythm when Althea Spencer scored off a direct kick outside of the 18. With the score tied shortly before the end of the first half, Sharon struck again giving them a 2-1 lead into the halftime.

Coming into the second half, the Chelsea defense picked it up a notch and kept Sharon scoreless for the remainder of the second half. With less then three minutes left in the game, Samantha Bonasera sent the ball flying to the net to tie the Lady Devils with the Sharon Phoenix, 2-2. Before long both teams were playing aggressively in overtime, something not new to the Chelsea Devils. Despite the effort by both teams, the game ended with a 2-2 tie.

Win Over Blue Mt.

The Chelsea girls defeated Blue Mountain 2-1 on Tuesday in an exciting game. The Chelsea Lady Devils jumped to a 1-0 lead when Lindsey Smith scored while the goalie was out trying to save a shot from Spencer. The Devils continued to play an aggressive game leading them into the half with a 2-1 advantage.

Into the second half the Blue Mountain Bucks tied the game with a shot, making the score 1-1. For most of the second half both teams continued to battle for the ball. Tough defense by Bonasera, Spencer, Mary Childs and Morgan Wadkins helped the Red Devils keep possession of the ball.

It was off a corner kick when the ball was deflected to the center that eighth grader Courtney Sanford scored the tie-breaking goal. The shot gave Chelsea a 2-1 lead and their third win of the season. Their record improves to 3-3-2.
