Tough Week for Lady Ghosts
By Rachel DiStefano

Last Wednesday, the Ghosts hosted Montpelier and lost by a score of 4-1.

At halftime the score was tied, as senior Emily Howe scored with just a few minutes remaining in the half, evening it up at one goal apiece on a nice assist from fellow captain Brynn Fabian. In the second half, Montpelier came out with intensity, and two more goals were scored quickly. Zeljana Varga led the Solons with a hat trick. Randolph was unable to recover from the deficit.

Sharayah Nonemacher helped the Ghosts with 13 saves in the net.

Division I St. J

On Tuesday the Lady Ghosts traveled to Division I St. Johnsbury Academy where they fell to the Hilltoppers 5-3.

Randolph looked strong at the start of the game with many offensive possessions.

Unfortunately the Ghosts could not hold off the few but strong St. J attacks. In particular the defense had trouble containing Annie Rowell, who led the St. Johnsbury offense, scoring all five of her team’s goals. The first half ended with a score of 3-1, with Randolph’s lone goal coming off of a penalty kick that was put away by senior captain Howe.

In the second half, both teams added two additional goals to their tallies.

Overall, the second half saw a great improvement in intensity by the Ghosts. They found themselves in close scoring position numerous times up until the end. The second Randolph goal came from Howe, with a shot from beyond the top of the penalty box. Erika Smith also contributed in scoring, off an assist from Gwen Reis. Reis’ initial shot was fumbled by the goalie, and fellow junior forward Smith was there to put it in.

Sharayah Nonemacher had six stops in goal for Randolph. Randolph’s record now stands at 2-6-1.

On Thursday, the Ghosts take another long trip to Lyndon Institute, and on Monday they will face Northfield in the rescheduled game from last Friday.
