Sanders a Threat
To America

How have Vermont and its people reached this point in our state’s history by considering to elect a candidate to the U.S. Senate who is a threat to our way of life?

I believe that Bernie Sanders does not have the traits of a strong leader. In fact, I am concerned he may even "sell us out" if he had a chance. My concern is fueled by Sander’s voting record, primarily his annual vote against the military budget. The message he sends to our men and women on the frontlines of battle is that he does not support them and would be happy to send them into battle without proper weaponry or protective gear. However, Sanders "flips" once the budget has passed and votes for bills that enhance his image as a supporter of veterans.

During the Cold War, the United States battled the type of candidate Bernie Sanders represents. The values of capitalism and democracy prevailed as the Berlin Wall fell and the U.S.S.R. transformed into Russia. Sander’s record proves that he does not stand for the same democratic values that embody this great nation we live in. I seriously question the integrity of Sanders, a socialist, who has befriended dictatorial, oppressive leaders such as Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.

Beyond his inconsistent voting record, Sanders continues to misrepresent the state and be influenced by Hollywood money. Additionally, his political banter is full of holes that his constituents, the Vermont people, have not held him accountable for.

For example, Sanders has been a Congressman in Washington for 16 years. This is the same man who claims he is "passionate" about term limitations? Perhaps if he truly stood by this declaration he would step down and prove to Vermonters that he indeed is a man of his word.

Another major issue that Sanders has not adequately addressed is Social Security. I use the word "adequately" because why would a candidate try to solve a complex issue when he, himself, does not contribute one penny to the fund? Sanders does not have the wherewithal or experience to understand issues ranging from budgets to social security to bringing business and economic prosperity to Vermont. Sanders can appease Hollywood stars with his leftist preaching, but what has he done for the state he represents and its people who have become poorer in the 16 years he has held office? How has Sanders addressed Vermont’s greatest problem: brain-drain? Our young people are leaving Vermont to find prosperity in other areas of the nation because economically our sons and daughters cannot make it here.

I have lived in Vermont for six decades; I have defended this nation; I have raised four children, and in my time, I do not believe I have ever seen a candidate with so many excuses for his actions in the House of Representatives. Sarcastic rhetoric does not solve any problems. When it has been time for the "rubber to meet the pavement" how has Sanders performed for you or for me?

The United States is a country of opportunity. The American dream still lives. Richard Tarrant embodies the courage of a businessman whether he is a hardworking CEO or farmer. Let’s work to elect a Vermont college graduate, a successful businessmen who knows how to get things done that benefit all his constituents instead of special interest groups. Tarrant, a successful, self-made businessman knows that jobs, health care and housing affordability are the keys to keeping Vermont prosperous and the next Vermont generation viable on all fronts.

When it is time for you to cast your vote please consider three points: (1) Do you want your children to be able to prosper where they were raised? (2) Do you want to be proud of your elected officials? (3) Do you want your Senator to support our troops, our sons and daughters, who stand in harms way to defend against terrorism?
