Play-Off Win For Lady Hornets Sends Whitcomb Into Quarter-Finals
By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier

Freshman Emily Durfee earned her second varsity assist less than one minute into the play-offs when Molly Taylor netted Durfee’s missed-shot-rebound at :54 putting the Hornets out in front where they remained as they defeated the #15 Phantoms with a 3-0 shutout victory which sends them into the quarter-finals tomorrow.

It was bitterly cold when the #5 seeded Whitcomb hosted Proctor Tuesday, but not cold enough to stop the Hornets who managed to out play and out shoot their opponents 18 to 6. There was some pushing in the game that saw Proctor’s Kelsey McCormack sitting on the bench during the first half and in the second half, Tracy Zisselsberger for side-tackling as both were issued yellow cards during the game.

The Hornets took control early in the game scoring all three goals during the first half. Their second and third goals earned Taylor the hat trick and Zisselsberger the deuce with two assists. First Zisselsberger passed to the middle and Taylor connected at 9:01 and then Zisselsberger crossed the ball at 21:23 and Taylor tipped the ball in.

Proctor made several valiant attempts at scoring and even had Hornet Maggie Eddy diving to the ground a couple of times but to no avail as the Hornets held them scoreless after 80 minutes of play. Katie McCormack did a commendable job for the Phantoms with 15 saves and Eddy was perfect stopping all six shots.

Whitcomb will now face either the #4 seeded Craftsbury Chargers at Craftsbury or host the #13 seeded Cabot Huskies. The Hornets now stand at 10-4.
