Unfortunately the Randolph Boys Galloping Ghosts were knocked out in their first playoff game against Fair Haven. Randolph, the #10 seed played #7 Fair Haven to a 1-1 tie in regulation but lost on a golden goal in the second OT. The first half was played with no goals, and opportunities on both sides. Fair Haven was to strike first when they scored 15 minutes into the second half. Randolph started to attack desperately but they failed to score as the game began to wind down. But in the 77th minute the ball was brought down the side and deflected for a Randolph corner kick. The kick went into the fray, and then was kicked out to David Maxfield, who rocketed one into the corner with 2:30 remaining. In the first overtime both Randolph and Fair Haven had a quality chance but both failed to capitalize. In the second OT Fair Haven scored off a cross with four and a half minutes to go. Hats off to goalie David Dubie, who hopes to play college ball. He played a tremendous game and had an excellent season. The team would like to thank seniors David Dubie, Wesley Simpson, Mike Czok, and Teddy Gilman for a great season. We would also like to thank exchange student Peter Wittmann who provided a great boost to the team and got us energized about the season. Though a disappointing ending, Randolph showed much improvement and looked better than they had in years. The Ghosts look forward to next year when they hope to have seven returning seniors. |
