RANDOLPH CENTER —Theo-dore B. "Ted" Godfrey, 91, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 2006 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born Jan. 27, 1915 in Charleston, S.C., the son of Isadore and Sarah E. (Gantt) Godfrey. He attended schools in South Carolina and New York. After high school, he attended St. John’s University in New York. He married Dorothy Stoute in New York. She died in 1967. He served with the U.S. Air force during WWII. After his discharge from the service, he founded and was president of Screen Struct in New York. He later worked as a salesman in merchandising for several New York businesses. Following his retirement, he worked at a camp for underprivileged children. He moved to Randolph Center in 1992 and married Ruth (Cooley) Demarest May 9, 1992 in Randolph Center. He was a member of the Randolph Senior Center and Vermont-New Hampshire Hos-pice. He enjoyed golfing, music and was a peace and justice activist. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Demarest-Godfrey of Randolph Center; a son, David B. Godfrey of Allentown, Penna.; a daughter, Leslie Godfrey-Coverdale of New Rochelle, N.Y., and two grandsons, Derek and Seth Godfrey. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Randolph. Rev. Timothy Eberhardt officiated and Harriet Chase was the Crucifer. A prelude of Chopin’s Preludes in E Minor, A Minor and B Major was played by pianist Jane Eubanks. Shirley Baumann was the organist and Ronald Godfrey was the reader. The congregation sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," and "Amazing Grace." A time of fellowship and refreshment followed in the Parish Hall. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Vermont Air National Guard was held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Humane society, PO Box 687, Montpelier, Vt. 06601 or the Educational Scholarship fund of the NAACP, New York Chapter, 2269 Saw Mill River Rd., Elmsford, NY 10523. Arrangements were under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph. ____________ |
