Donald E. Smith

ROCHESTER-Donald E. Smith, 74, a life-long Rochester resident, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born September 15, 1932, in Rochester, the son of Nelson and Doris (Moore) Smith. He attended Rochester schools and graduated from Rochester High School. Following his education, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Marcy Souza March 15, 1957 in California. He worked for the Town of Rochester Highway Department for 28 years, until retiring in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and reading. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Church in Rochester and was a former member of the Moss Glen Grange.

Survivors include his wife, Marcy Smith of Rochester; three sons, David Smith of Florida, Gregory Smith of Manchester, and Timothy Smith of Worcester, Mass.; a daughter, Alice Shimmel of Littleton, Mass.; two sisters, Doris Mears of Randolph and Betty Jean LaRose of Auburndale, Fla.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Rochester. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
