The Boston Museum of Science is currently displaying an exhibition of the works of Gunther Von Hagens, which consists of cadavers (dead bodies). This is a display of dead persons in various real-life activity poses. Their bodies are intact except for the glass eyes implanted which enlivens the life-like appearance. These dead people have had their skin removed totally or partially to reveal their innards and muscle structure. All genatalia are displayed , scrotums are removed so that the gonads hang loose. The Randolph Elementary School has planned a trip for their fifth and sixth graders, ages 10 to 12, to view this exhibit in Boston on the 17th of November. Those children choosing to attend are required by the Boston Museum to have parental permission to view these dead bodies, as does the elementary school. I am confident that this exhibit of cadavers is very useful to medical students and artists; however, I do not believe that it is age-appropriate for children 10 to 12 years of age, and believe that in the best interest of the children‚s welfare that the trip be canceled. If you too believe that this event is not age appropriate for 10 to12 year old children, please call Shirley Stewart, principal, at 728-9555 and request this trip be canceled.
