Co-op, Bookstore
Equal Happiness

At this season of Thanksgiving, I am grateful that I live where there is a co-op and a bookstore which add so much to the quality of life here in Central Vermont.

Cover to Cover is celebrating being twelve years old! Although I am one of those trying to lighten the load, I till need a book on occasion. "The Prince's Bedtime"—perfect for a great grand who doesn't want to go to sleep—or "The Kite Runner"—a good read for the son-in-law who is off to help a struggling clinic in Rwanda. Best of all, of course, is any excuse to have a visit with owner Jeannie Ward or to hear Sara Edwards on the phone saying "The book you wanted is here."

Randolph Cooperative Market is important to me for its vision (have you read its Mission Statement?). Co-ops throughout the country remind us of the need to live sustainably, to support local agriculture and vendors and to grow a green economy. It, too, is a pleasant place to shop with welcoming, helpful staff and usually a friend or two with whom to visit.

I believe it is essential that we pull together to help our Co-op through its present crisis.

Happy Thanksgiving.
