TUNBRIDGE—Richard L. Barn-aby, 77, a life long resident of Tunbridge, died early Friday morning, November 17, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 4, 1929 in Tunbridge, the son of Forrest and Jessie I. (Hoyt) Barnaby. He attended school in Tun-bridge and at the age of 16 bought his first truck. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Caroline Fisk of Sharon, Vermont December 6, 1953. He was a familiar sight at the Tunbridge Worlds Fair, where he had worked for over 50 years. He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post of South Royalton, the American Legion Post #26 in White River Jct., Vermont, the Sharon Grange, and the St. Thomas Church in Hanover, N.H. He enjoyed the fair, deer hunting, pickerel shooting, fishing, NASCAR racing, trips to the casino and most of all, visiting with his many friends. His ties to his hometown were strong Survivors include his wife, of Tunbridge; five sons: Richard "Rick" Barnaby, Jr. of Tunbridge, Michael Barnaby of California, Steven Barnaby of Bellvue, Neb., Timothy Barnaby of Tunbridge, and Jon Barnaby of Sharon; 15 grandchildren, five great—grand children, two brothers; Edward "Ski" Barnaby and Levi Barnaby, both of Tunbridge; three sisters: Gena Moses of Royalton, Beverly Burnor of Windsor, and Marilyn Vesper of Tunbridge; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother George Barnaby and two sisters, Evelyn Ritter and Bessie Roberts. Calling hours were held Monday, Nov. 20 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral home in Chelsea. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Tunbridge Congregational Church, with Rev. David L. Wolfe officiating. Richard’s widow, Caroline spoke as he would have to the over-flowing congregation. Many more of his friends and family shared reflections about this unique man and what he had meant to them in their lives. Soloist, Rob Howe sang the hymn "In the Garden" and organist Judie Lewis led the congregation in singing "Onward Christian Soldiers." His five sons served as pallbearers carrying his custom lettered and illustrated casket which was hand painted by his nephew, Scott Fisk. The burial followed the service in the Spring Road Cemetery in Tunbridge. A military contingent folded and presented the flag to his wife and taps were played. The service concluded with the releasing of white doves by Lisa Cilley. A time of fellowship and refreshments was held at Tunbridge Town Hall and hosted by his niece, Marie Danforth.
