Local Artists at Nina Gaby’s Brookfield Studio & Gallery "Be good to baby for under a hundred dollars" is the tagline for the newest show at Nina Gaby’s Brookfield gallery. Local artisans Mindy Jackson-Jefferys, Tamara Wight and Mary Lou Maeder join Gaby for a holiday show which also includes nine other central Vermont artists. Focusing on affordability and style, Gaby will feature felted ornaments from Braintree’s Vermont Felt Farm, specially sized photographs and paintings by Montpelier’s Annie Tiberio and South Royalton’s Melanie Phelps, handpainted wooden bowls from Patricia Harrington of Granville, and Janet Van Fleet’s mobiles. Mixed-media, polymer and glass earrings, smoked earthenware charm necklaces by Nina Gaby, Mindy Jackson-Jefferys, Barre’s Susan Torchia, and Milton’s Kathleen Redman make special gifts, as do Gaby’s figurative earthenware dolls and edgy "weird Santas." Gaby has also designed some new ceramic menorahs for the season. Needle-felted "tomtens" (Norwegian elves) and basketry from Brookfield artist Tamara Wight complement Mary Lou Maeder’s wet-felted bags and knit fingerless gloves. "Baby Wants Art for Xmas (and Hanukah and Kwanza and just for being such a good girl)" runs through Christmas with weekend holiday open houses from 3-6 every Saturday and Sunday (with the exception of December 17) starting this Saturday, Dec. 2 at Nina Gaby’s Studio and Gallery in Pond Village across from the floating bridge. These events will also feature baked goods from Meridee Lyons of Brookfield’s Silver Dome Home Bakery. The public is welcome to the open houses or by appointment at 276-3726. ____________ |
