Butterfield In Running
For Town Manager

As the Randolph Selectboard began interviewing town manager candidates this week, they came across a familiar face.

Former Selectman Peter Butterfield is one of nine candidates who have been invited for interviews, and he was one of four interviewed Tuesday.

That was confirmed by selectboard member Dawn Butterfield, Peter Butterfield's wife. She has recused herself from the entire town manager search process.

A total of 39 applications were received for the manager's position, according to Selectboard Chair Jim Hutchinson. Most of those chosen for interviews are from New England and most are, or have been, in municipal management, he said.

The next round of interviews will take place Friday. It is hoped to have a new manager in place early in 2007.

Butterfield was a particularly active selectboard member during the half dozen or so years he spent on the board before stepping down in 2004. He chaired the Capital Budget Committee that set up the town's first capital budget, and from 2003 to 2004, he was chair of the board.

He also served a short term as board president of the Randolph Area Community Development Corp. and has been involved in housing issues in Randolph for years. For more than 10 years he has been a manager with Central Vermont Community Action Council, which is headquartered in Barre but has a center in Randolph.
