New Chandler Offering:
Two Youth Choruses

The Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph is offering the opportunity for area youth to participate in a new program at Chandler Music Hall.

Chandler will offer two choral opportunities; one for youth ages 7–12 (through sixth grade), and the second for young adults ages 13–18. Classes are scheduled for Sunday evenings in the upper gallery at Chandler and will be one hour in length. The youth chorus will meet at 6:15 p.m., followed by the teens at 7:30 p.m. You do not need to have a trained voice to be a part of these choruses.

The focus of these classes is to have fun through music, to learn individual vocal skills and to learn how to sing as part of a vocal group, with harmony and vocal expression. Performance opportunities will be discussed and determined by the group and by Chandler.

Patty Ackley Warlick, who will be the musical director, has been a private voice instructor and In Motion dance teacher in the Randolph area for many years. She was director of The People’s Performance Chorus, a performance-based chorus that participated in scores of community events over a 10-year span. She also directed the youth productions of "Free To Be A Family" and "Sol to Soul" at Chandler Music Hall, and was the choreographer for the Fourth of July shows, "The Wizard of Oz," "The Music Man" and "South Pacific."

Susan Rule, who will accompany the choruses on piano and guitar, currently teaches music in the Bethel school system. She has been a teacher and performer in many different capacities; from musical duos to directing community choruses and school theatrical productions.

Chandler’s new community outreach manager, Betsy Cantlin, who will assist, has served on the production committee at Chandler for many years and is the producer for the Fourth of July summer youth musicals.

The classes will run for a 10-week session from January 7 through March 11. Scholarships are available. Chandler is looking for a minimum of 12 students in each chorus. Contact Betsy Cantlin at outreach@chandler-arts.org or 728-9010 to register.
