The East Randolph Community Hall Committee, with the assistance of Chris Sargent of the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission (TRORC), has mailed a recreation survey to 300 residents in the East Valley. The survey is being distributed to gauge support for recreational programs in East Randolph’s Community Hall. The survey is another step toward efforts to revitalize the village of East Randolph. The East Randolph Community Hall Committee was originally formed for the purpose of gaining Village Designation from the Vermont Downtown Board. With that goal achieved, the committee is now working on a Village Master Plan that will help guide future investments in East Randolph. With the help of the TRORC, the village secured two municipal planning grants to fund the project at no cost to the town. Phase one of the project, a transportation plan, was completed this past June. The plan focused on traffic and pedestrian enhancements in the village, specifically the possibility of putting sidewalks and crosswalks along Route 14. As a result of this effort, the town is considering applying for a federal grant to help fund the work. A copy of the transportation plan is available from TRORC’s Chris Sargent, 457-3188. Sargent also happens to be a resident of East Randolph. The recreation survey is a key part of phase two of the Village Master Plan. "When we began our efforts three years ago," Sargent said this week, "folks at our public meetings were really adamant about the need for recreational facilities, specifically a playground and rec fields, in East Randolph. "To have amenities like that," he continued, "you have to be able to prove that they'll be used. We're hoping the survey supports our belief that they would be." Sargent noted that the Randolph Selectboard has been very supportive, and has encouraged the committee to collect community feedback. Depending on that feedback, grant funds will be sought to secure land for recreation purposes, as well as fund improvements to the Community Hall, Sargent said. The committee hopes that everyone who receives the survey in the mail will fill it in and return it to Sargent by January 12. ___________ |
