Come one, come all to a New Year’s Day "Messiah Sing" in Randolph on New Year's Day, where the listeners are the performers, and vice-versa. Dick Drysdale will once again lead a sing-through of the "Christmas section" of George Frederick Handel’s great oratorio, a holiday season favorite. It will begin at 3 p.m. at Bethany Church on Main Street in Randolph. Marta Borgstrom will provide piano accompaniment, and there will be a small orchestra. There will be no charge for anyone participating or listening, as all the soloists and orchestra musicians are donating their time and talent. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Randolph Area Food Shelf, however. "The Messiah" is so popular and well-known that informal "Messiah Sings" have become regular events in many places, and the occasional New Year’s Day sings in Randolph have been very well-received. Singers are needed to make the event happen, but folks coming just to listen are very welcome, too—so long as they don’t expect a professional performance, the conductor said. "It will be pretty darn good, though, to judge by past years," he added. All singers are invited. Please bring your own music score if you have one. There will be some to lend out, but not enough for the whole group. Anyone who is interested in singing one of the "Messiah" solos is asked to contact Dick Drysdale at 728-3734 or editor@OurHerald.com. Likewise, anyone interested in playing in the orchestra should contact him. Instrumental parts are available ahead of time for practicing if desired. |
