The Randolph boys basketball team added two wins last week to bring their record to 2-1. Randolph beat Peoples at home last Thursday, 44-34 and defeated Mill River away Tuesday, 62-47. The Guy Ghosts used a well rounded offense with eight players on the team scoring. Their defense was tough as well with Markus Farnham getting five rebounds and a block in the second quarter. Connor Fowler ended the night with nine rebounds and Mike Czok added seven from the guard position. Fowler opened the dance with a fake and a good move to the basket for the first points of the game and the Ghosts were on their way to an exceptional first half. Randolph moved to a 7-0 lead before the Mill River Minutemen scored with 4:09 left on the clock. Seven of the Guy Ghosts went on to score in the first giving Mill River too many threats to cover. Randolph ended the opening period up, 16-11. Randolph continued to build on their lead in the second stanza by outscoring the Minutemen, 18-9. Czok got hot from downtown and nailed three treys while teammate Ira Tillberg hit his second three-pointer of the game. The Guy Ghosts continued to handle the ball well with patient passing and manged to get the open guy in place right when they needed to. Randolph led 34-20 at the halftime break. After just four turnovers in the whole first half, Randolph fumbled five times in the third period with the Minutemen taking advantage to stay in the game. Zack Allard led off the third with a fast break lay-up but the Minutemen added five points to cut the gap to 11. The teams swapped shots until the end of the quarter when Thomas Jacobs, Kyle Connolly and Fowler combined for eight points, two rebounds and two steals. The Guy Ghosts ended the third period with a 49-31 edge. Randolph led off the final stanza with a bang. Fowler answered a Mill River hoop with a rebound and a bucket, Jacobs put on a good move to score and then stole the ball and scored again. The Guy ghosts held their biggest lead of the game, 55-33 just a minute and a half into the quarter. Randolph started to get into foul trouble and Mill River did take advantage from the free throw line and scored on two Randolph miscues to cut the gap to 19. Mill River couldn’t get much closer than that and the Ghosts ended with the 15 point victory. Randolph had three players in double figures, Czok with 15, Fowler 12 and Jacobs 10. Tillberg added 8, Farnham 7, Connolly 5, Allard 4 and David Dube one. Win Over Peoples The Ghosts faced the Peoples Wolves Thursday at home and won, 44-34. Randolph’s defense held the wolves to under 10 points. Fowler had a very good night on the boards and hauled in 11 rebounds. The first period got off to a slow start with no scoring for around two minutes. Allard lit the board up first with a free throw followed by a steal and coast-to-coast lay up by Jacobs. Allard got a shot from downtown after a steal from Tillberg and Cody Montgomery went into the game and scored giving the Guy ghosts an 8-0 edge. Czok and People’s swapped treys and Jon White ended the first with a fast break hoop for the 13-3 edge. The second quarter was more even with Randolph adding 15 and Peoples 11. The Guy Ghosts used steals and fast break hoops to increase their edge to 21-7. Randolph had just three turnovers in the first half of the game. At the break the hometown boys led 28-14. Randolph got outscored 13-7 in the third period. People’s went on a 9-2 run with Randolph committing three costly turnovers. Tillberg drove through to score to get the Ghosts back on track and Fowler nailed a trey keeping the Guy Ghosts on top, 35-27. The offense was slim for both teams in the final stanza with Randolph adding 9 and the Wolves, 7. Peoples had two players in double figures, #14 Brad Jones 14 and #20 Kane Plante added 11. Randolph had solid scoring from five players. Allard had 9 points, Jacobs, Fowler and Tillberg added 8 each. Czok had 7 and Montgomery and White had 2 each. Jacobs also had 8 assists. J.V. Games The J.V. boys lost to People’s 47-33. The high scorers were Nik Bent with 10 and Jason Hicks with 8. The J.V. squad also lost to Mill River, 41-26. The high scorers were Bent with 10 and Sam Lyons with 8. The Guy Ghosts play Oxbow away today, Thursday, Dec. 14 and play Vergennes at home Monday, Dec. 18. ____________ |
